They grow up so fast

So the chicks are ready to see the world. It’s getting nice here, in fact today was in the 70s. Yesterday was their first night to spend the night outside. We had let them stay out during a warm afternoon over the weekend but it’s gotten nice and we thought it was time to get them outta the house. They were eating up a room of my house (granted my wife and I have no kids and we have 4 bedrooms but still, we wanted an exercise room), eatting a ton of food, they were messy but mostly…they smelled — bad!

Come to think of it they don’t sound too different from having kids…

Anyway, last night they went out and I didn’t get the chance to get pictures so today I did. Who knew that the evening settling in process could be so interesting to watch. They really are fascinating animals.

In their first full day outside they seemed very exicted to hop around and find worms and shuffle through leaves to find little bugs and such. Which is great to me — less bugs in my yard which also means they eat less of the feed that I have to buy and need x-ray vision to verify is the right stuff.

Chicks on their first day out. Buttercup standing next to a daffodil.  Crowding our Feet.

Digging for worms. So they got to spend a lot of time out doing their chicken thing. I’m sure they fought a bit over thier pecking order which I think is still being established — but it’s hard to tell right now. When I got home from work I went outside again and decided to hang out with them digging up worms for them. A few were comfortable with the idea but most still wouldn’t get too close while I was down on the ground like that. It was suprisingly fun. Chicken’s really do make great little pets.
