Buttercup seems to have quickly become the crowd favorite. My wife’s students that come and go each day are always most enamoured by her solid off-white coloring, exciting hair-do, and beard that’s just coming in. As I’ve talked about in previous posts she’s an interesting chick to watch and is often a bit stand off-ish, but today she’s was feeling rather adventurous.
She decided to show off her inquisitive nature first thing by getting herself stuck under the rusty old Huffy I mentioned in the first post. It was laying on it’s side as you can see the bolt from the front wheel up and to the right of her head. Just as I was about to grab her to let her out she wriggled her way to freedom.
Buttercup still though didn’t seem to want to fight for top of the pecking order. She sat back and had a nice day in the sun, although she does seem to be staying relatively close to Jessie; as much as Jessie will allow anyone to stay next to her for too long.

This is just before “Preening Time”. The chicks seem to want to find a place to sit and preen then taking a short nap late each afternoon. The polish chicks seem to spend about twice as long preening - I guess maybe they have more feathers to care forĀ - but I still think they are just stuck up.
