There are a lot of people with pet chickens - not that I knew about that until recently and a lot of people who want pet chickens (apparently). Who would have thought how friendly they are. Seeing that chickens (understandably) have a natural fear of humans it takes some time to get them used to you. But once you do they have no problem walking all over you.
My wife got this shot of Julian walking up my back, which is great because it’s been very challenging for me to get one of them on top of me (despite my best efforts). Slowly they are becoming more accepting of my touching and picking them up. And they have become very accepting of my sitting around with them in the afternoons.
There are people who have ventured into the realm of having chickens in doors with them. I’ve read stories of people who managed to potty train a chicken - not sure how true it is - but the common solution is the chicken diaper. Yes, you read that correctly: the chicken diaper. MyPetChicken.com even sells a Chicago Bears pattern for your chicken’s diaper.
Don’t be afraid to venture out into the world of chickens. They’re fun, simple and easy to care for.
