I suppose this has been happening since we had the chickens but we didn’t entirely notice it because there were more of them and everyone, except Clover had another from the same breed, but it seems chickens really prefer to be largely segragated.
Since the Raccoon attack we’ve noticed this more because we now have 3 chickens that are all alone in their breed, Meg, Aster and Clover. Clover was always a bit of an outcast and maybe this is why. Chickens are breedist (which is a little like being racist except it has to do with breed – humans would normally just call this elitist). Anyway, now we very often see Meg, Aster and Clover all alone. Everynight, Jessie, Dahlia and Buttercup all sleep together, Teresa and Julian sleep together and the last 3 end up somewhat reluctantly together.
We’ve noticed Dahlia in particular be very cruel to Aster when she’s tried to sleep next to her. Teresa and Julian have always been mostly protective of their space and only allowed Pepper to sleep with them regularly.
We feel bad for the outcasts now, they’re almost always alone.

Sounds like they need Diversity Training.
